Service Provider Rules
Last updated: September 26, 2026 · Version 2026.09.26
Independent provider relationship
Each service is offered and performed by an independent provider who contracts directly with the buyer. A provider is not an employee, agent, partner, or representative of UniConnect or any university. UniConnect does not direct how a provider performs the agreed work. A university email address, campus affiliation, listing review, or platform status is not a university endorsement.
Truthful scope and qualifications
Providers must describe the service scope, format, timing, experience, skills, qualifications, licenses, and credentials truthfully. Providers may not claim a qualification they do not hold or exaggerate the extent of UniConnect's review. The provider remains responsible for suitable methods, supplies, safety, legal compliance, and delivering the agreed scope.
New York publication and credential review
The current service launch is limited to New York. Ordinary room cleaning, wash-and-fold laundry, labor-only move-in help, pet sitting at the owner's home, and other ordinary student services may publish without professional credential review when accurately classified and within the stated scope. This is a platform publication rule, not an exemption from applicable state, local, federal, tax, safety or campus requirements. Cleaning excludes pest control, mold, asbestos and biohazards; laundry excludes dry-cleaning chemicals; pet sitting excludes boarding and veterinary work.
Regulated or unclear work requires private evidence and manual administrator approval before publication. Depending on the work, evidence may include professional and business licenses, permits, registrations or a documented exemption. Paid hair braiding, food preparation and regulated financial or investment advice must go through this review; the exact authorization depends on the activity. Approval must match the provider, jurisdiction, service scope and validity period. Changing scope or evidence requires renewed review, and expired verification stops discovery and new bookings. Review is not a guarantee of competence, safety, legality, insurance, payment-provider eligibility or university approval. Never begin regulated work without the required authorization.
Labor-only move-in help
Move-in help is limited to carrying and unpacking, not driving, transporting goods, vehicle rental, installation or construction. Lifting can cause injury or property damage. Agree on safe loads, access and responsibilities before work; do not attempt unsafe tasks. UniConnect does not supply movers or insurance and does not guarantee reimbursement for loss. This disclosure does not waive rights or excuse negligence. For-hire transport of household goods may require separate authorization and is not covered by the ordinary move-in category.
Prohibited services
Prohibited services include academic cheating or completing assessed work for another person, illegal or unsafe work, sexual services, controlled-goods delivery, credential theft or unauthorized access, and legal, medical, financial, therapeutic, or other regulated professional work when the provider lacks legally required authorization. Providers must follow the Community Guidelines and applicable law.
Price, payment, and fee integrity
Before payment, checkout separately displays the fixed service price, the UniConnect service fee, and the buyer total. The provider receives the full service price shown above. Providers may not add an undisclosed charge, solicit off-platform payment, or move a transaction off platform to evade a UniConnect fee or safety control.
Taxes and records
Providers are responsible for taxes, registrations, licenses, reporting, and records applicable to their circumstances. Gross payment reporting does not determine taxable income. UniConnect does not provide individual tax advice; providers should consult a qualified adviser.
Completion, disputes, and enforcement
Providers must mark completion only after performing the agreed scope and must preserve relevant evidence. A buyer may dispute a paid service before release, including during the 48-hour review window after completion. UniConnect may unpublish services, block new requests or acceptances, suspend provider access, preserve evidence, and administer the stated refund or release process. Existing paid work remains subject to its transaction workflow and is not silently cancelled by provider suspension.
